Dove Facebook Ad controversy

Was this Dove commercial intended as racist?

Probably not.

An African American make-up artist saw a problem with the black woman transforming into a white woman as she removed her shirt:

There were three women in the Dove commercial on Facebook: A Black woman, a White ginger woman & a woman with an olive skin colour:

The make-up artist solely focused on the first two women: The Black woman and the White woman.

She didn’t like the Black woman transforming into the White woman. To her, that transformation implied racism.

However, she didn’t see racism implied when the White woman transformed into a bronze or olive skin tone woman:

Colourism is another word for racism. A skin colour is preferred and is the standard for beauty.

The make-up artist couldn’t avoid implying racism as she criticized Dove for colourism.
